The Film Industry 

 PRODUCTION

The stages are :

• Pre-Production - is the stage when all planning for the project takes place, during this step the production is broken down into individual scenes and all the locations, props, cast-members, costumes, special effects and visual effects are identified. If the script isn't complete its written at this stage. A schedule is produced and arrangements are made for necessary issues or people to be available to the film-makers.  
• Production - The second stage is production, this is the stage where all the filming is carried out. All of the scenes that have been planned out in the 'Pre-Production' stage are filmed at the relevant locations. Each of the scenes are filmed many times as the director sees which scene is a good footage, to ensure that the best quality scenes will be used to construct the film. Great care must be taken when necessary shots are being taken and all the filming  is done correctly. as it would be difficult or impossible to repeat certain events if the filming is incomplete when it comes to the 'Post-Production' stage.
• Post-Production - This stage is when the film is assembled by the editor, the first job the editor does is to do a rough cut taken from scenes based on individual shots. The purpose of the rough cut is to select and order the best shots. Secondly, the editor has to create a fine cut by getting all the shots to run smoothly in a seamless story. Trimming is the process when shortening scenes by a few minutes, seconds or even frames all of this is done during this phrase. All the music, graphics, menus etc. are added in this stage. after the fine cut has been screened and approved by the director and producer the picture can have no further changes, in other words its locked.

The ownership of the studio might have an impact on what films the studio makes because it depends on what genre it is for example Dreamworks studios are mostly linked with Animations e.g. Shrek, so you won't see a action movie made under Dreamworks studio. Also it depends on the ownership, if they direct/produce more action and thriller movies then you will see that genre of movies under the studio, also they wouldn't like to produce an other type of genre because they profession is already set one genre already. 

Independent production is when an artist continues to complete creative, editorial and artistic control. 

 Distribution of Films. 

Film distribution is when making a film available for viewing by an audience. 

The people who produce the film don't distribute the movie, their are Film Distributors who distribute the film. There job is to determine the marketing strategy for the film and may set the release date.  

The tradition way of distributing films is to show your film to many good sales agent, so that they can take the film on. Also enter the films in keys festivals, advertise the film to distributors so they can sell your film worldwide. when the films has been seen and when bought the film will probably go to the cinemas, hopefully!. 

Distributors decide to release a film on one particular weekend rather than another because there is a possibility that another film is going to be released that weekend, and the distributor doesn't want the audience to choose to see one film and not the other.

Distribution is very essential to the film chain because, without the film being distributed the film won't get bought, it will not make it to cinemas and it won't sell worldwide. 

  

MARKETING 

Marketing is when a business advertises their product or service to the public or to their relevant audience. Distribution is different to Marketing because marketing is what events occur when the film is going to be released in cinemas and you can see the posters of the movie on buses and billboards. However, Distributing is the process of trying to the movie to cinemas. 

 

Most films have different trailers, for example The Purge trailer was originally had an English trailer since it was mad in America but there is now a trailer for the film in Spanish which is targeted for people who speak the language Spanish.

Exhibition

Audiences can view films either going to the cinema or going on websites such as Netflix or buying DVDs or downloading movies and streaming films from illegal sites. A Box Office is usually a list of the best grossing films, films that are on the list are popular and have made a lot of money from cinema ticket sales. 

Box  office return is useful to show the success of a movie because it conveys how much money was made and how the consumers ranked the film, Cinemas make their money by selling refreshments, on screen advertisements and of course tickets !.To get customers to go to the cinema is by making the cinema comfortable and convenient, the O2 Cineworld is a good example, because there are loads of screens and they have a VIP lounge also a new edition of seating the D-box seats where viewers can feel movement and vibration during the film also with a 3-D footage. 

BFI is The British Film Institute, they are required to encourage the development of the arts of the film, television and moving image in the United Kingdom to advertise about film, television and moving images .
