EXHIBITION

Film industries use test screening of a film before its release in order to see the audiences' reaction. Test screening is a way the audience is able to see a preview screening of a particular film.

We like to engage with films in many ways. We want to laugh, cry get grossed out even scream when we see a ghost on screen ! As part of an audience you want to be ENTERTAINED and this is something the film industry try to achieve.
Genres like comedy use humor to make their audience laugh out loud, horror films use spooky music and sound effects to engage the audience making them feel scared.

BOX OFFICE = A box office is a place at a cinema where tickets are bought or reserved.

How do cinemas make their money?

Cinemas make their money through the movie tickets, concessions and the onscreen advertisements.

Most of the money goes to the movie studio but in the first couple of weeks of the movie opening, the cinema only gets to keep about 20–25%.

They also make money from the concession stand. This is where all the snacks like popcorn and drinks are sold.  No wonder why their snacks are so expensive!

Studios also pay cinemas to show trailers. So basically cinemas make a lot of money before the movie even starts from those annoying half an hour long constant adverts.

Ancillary Markets

These are non-theatrical markets for feature films, like home video, television, Pay Per View, VOD, Internet streaming, airlines and others.
